An Unexpected Journey

The Unexpected Journey

Although some might say we are Hobbits we only followed their path today in that we had an unexpected journey. We went to Krka National Park which is mainly water so we booked a boat ride. St Francis was calling so we only intended for to the island with the Franciscan monastery but the boat man was muddled and we ended up going twice the distance and seeing an extra waterfall, Roski Slap. This meant we also had an extra hour and a half to explore the start of the series of waterfalls called necklaces by the locals, along with the water mills and learning all about the local fairies.

The island is the home to six monks and was bare rock when first inhabited by a whole string of different religions finishing off with the Franciscans. They built it up and it is now cultivated and complete with church and monastery along withe associated chickens.

The whole journey took 4 hours but was well worth it as we only paid for the short version.

The last set of waterfalls is called Skradinski Buc. It was made even more magnificent by been able to walk through all the different channels and waterfalls on a boardwalk. This was home to more water mills, some of which were used to the 1970`s, and was the first working hydro electric power scheme in 1895.
