Our Lady of the Bell Tower

Our Lady of the Bell Tower

As you already know we have come to like bell towers, so imagine our surprise whilst visiting the Split cathedral museum that we found a 13th Century painting of our beloved lady of the bell tower.

Barbara reminisced when she saw all the changes which had taken place over the last 30 years, however, all the old bits have had a lot of TLC which was nice.

As usual we wandered the back streets and alleys. And on turning up one such alley we came across St.Martins church built into the city walls above the golden gate. It was tiny but had an 11th Century early romanesque chancel screen, telling of the dedication to the virgin, to St.Gregory the pope and St.Martin.

After seeing Cathedrals, crypts, roman remains and too many shops and restaurants we decided to climb up to the Marjan viewpoint. The 3000 steps and path up to it were worth it as the panoramic view from the top was tremendous.

The day ended with supper on our terrace under the stars.
