Once we’d finished all the household bits and sussed the tram strike we ventured forth.
Lyon is a city of 2 rivers, the Rhone and the Saone , and therefore had lots of bridges. Lunch was a sandwich on the banks of the Saone. We then walked across the old red bridge and made for higher ground. This of course meant the funicular, we must add Lyon public transport system is great. A 2 day card will get you everywhere. We were in the historic Fourviere district which overlooks the city. We saw panoramic views from Le Jardine des Curiosites, the roman Amphitheatre, Basilique Notra-Dame de Fourviere and the Passerelle des Quartre Vents (footbridge).
Ice cream of course was on the menu after which we headed back down the hill and across ‘ La Place Bellecour’ which is one of the largest open squares in Europe and then made our merry way back to the appartment.
