Small is Beautiful

Small is Beautiful

We visited 3 hill top towns today and Hum, the smallest town in the world, was by far the best. Only 26 inhabitants and 2 streets plus church, cemetery and amazing 12th century fresco graffiti. We tried local produce and had a good old chinwag with an inhabitant of Hum who loaned us a key to get in to see the frescoes inside one of the churches. She spoke much better English than we did Croatian. The sun was warm and all was well in the world.

We moved on to Prazin, and its castle, which was a very informative and unexpectedly contemporary museum of Istrian history and culture. We may go back to visit the underground caverns if water levels drop sufficiently (guided tour, don’t worry we won’t go on our own).

After lunch in Max who was very happy because he had the wind in his hair all day, we ventured on to Motovun. Another hill town but much more exploited. We succumbed and paid to walk around the walls, the views were amazing. After exploring the rest of the town we grabbed a quick coffee and headed home. Oops forgot about the delicious fritters we had on the way back to Max.

Best evening so far, sat on the patio, enjoying the sunset, with a glass of wine.
