Overcast Clouds, 10°C
We started the morning at a wee beach near our overnight camp, the cloud still covered Ben Hope. We headed onto the main road with trepidation as we joined the North Coast 500 route. Thankfully not as bad as feared. The drive along the northern coast of Scotland was rugged but with one or two additions like a zip wire over a beach. Queue too long this time!!
Stopped at the Smoo Caves which are awesome and went for a walk along the cliffs. Had lunch at a wee van run by 2 enterprising Edinburgh students, deeelish, based on a newly laid carpark for motorhomes including laundry facilities.
Time to head to the beach, and what an awesome beach it was. At the end of the 1 1/2 miles of white sandy beach a friendly voice shouted “there’s an Otter” and sure enough there was. Sea Otters are massive especially with a limp of dead meat in its mouth. After hiding from us as we went by it sneaked through the rocks to the sea behind us whereupon it laid on its back and nibbled its prey. This chance meeting made Misty’s day, if not week, and for the whole of the walk back, as we chatted to the owners, Misty tried to get their dog to play with her. They did come to an amicable arrangement where Misty followed it everywhere else and would not leave it alone. She will sleep happy tonight.
Parked overnight at a wee harbour, a community enterprise even having electric.
