We Mist it

The road to the base of Ben Hope was like no other. Single track, very few passing places and grass growing down the middle. We arrived at the small, but full, car park and could only just squeeze in. The weather forecast had assured us it would brighten up this afternoon so we had a leisurely lunch in the van before we went. We started climbing, this the most northerly of the Munroes, up the first section up to the ridge. Which was very steep but also wet and boggy. The waterfalls though were very impressive. We met several people coming down who said “it’s very misty and windy up there” Haha we said it’s going to brighten up. After over an hour of climbing we reached the ridge, still misty (not our Misty she was looking after the van again). We followed the cairns religiously on the long slow climb to the summit (couldn’t see a thing for the mist). We even had a snowball fight 3/4 of the way up. We reached the summit 927m in the sky and the view, guess what, WE MIST IT. Even a cup of coffee and a choccy bar did not clear the mist so we headed back down. We must have chatted to at least 12 people on the mountain, all climbing in the afternoon to see the view. Guess what, they mist it too!! Every one laughing and joking with us in the usual British fashion.

Tonight we camped by Loch Hope 3 miles from Ben Hope and it is still covered in mist!!
