Sixty’s Grand Day Out

Overcast Clouds, 5°C

Staffin, Isle Of Skye

The 3 of us climbed up from the carpark to the Old Man of Storr which was shrouded in mist. Misty didn’t feel like walking up a hill so offered to look after the van.

The Old Man of Storr is a very popular spot. Tourists venture noisily to the Old Man and back to the carpark. Only us continuing beyond. We were climbing our first Graham this holiday (singular peak over 2000ft) and what an awesome climb it was. Sixty really enjoyed the spectacular 360 degree views and never even uttered a tiny scream as we scrambled up rock faces. Half way up the mist cleared and the sun came out and stayed out. The cairn on the top was not concrete but blocks of stone and snow layered in the grassy crevices . Coffee and chocolate much enjoyed in the sunshine on the top. It was damn cold though!!! But being intrepid adventures we were well layered up. We ambled slowly down hill until we came to the gully and thought whoo hoo we were right not to bring misty as we jumped and tumbled down it.

Misty joined us for the last adventure of the day, dinosaur hunting!! The famous An Corran beach at Staffin is close to the campsite. We just wished they had put a marker next to the dinosaur footprint as it took us ages to find one, but we did (with the help of several other intrepid dinosaur footprint hunters).

Just enough time left in the day to fix the heating in another campers motorhome.

Definitely a grand day out.
