Cares Gorge, 25km done πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Picos De Europa, Asturias, Spain

It was raining, it brightened up, it was a great walk. The cares gorge is a natural and man made wonder, complementing each other. The path along the gorge was created in the early 20th century to maintain a water channel for hydro electric works, a feat of engineering and without it the beauty of the gorge would have been missed by us.

It was a hard slog up to the highest point but well worth it, if you like walking along narrow paths gouged out of solid rock, with sheer drops to the gorge floor. We loved it but at times clung on to the inside rock. The views were awesome, the colours brilliant and eventually the sun shone. Destination Cain village was reached after 3 hours where we celebrated with cake and beer. Our only loss was not been able to take Misty as it would have been too hard for her but she had a good long sleep waiting for us.

We descended more quickly and enjoyed coffee and a snickers back in the van. Six and a half hours walking is not bad. Tired but happy.
