Romans Go Home

Wednesday 19th April 2023

“Apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system, and public health … what have the Romans ever done for us? ” “Brought peace!”Monty Pythons Life of Brian

Definitely sad to leave the Gaudi house, love Gaudi, but leave we must. We’ll see more of him in the next few days when we go into Barcelona.

Haven’t seen any Roman Amphitheatres recently! Oh there’s one in Tarragona, oh it’s on our route today! That’s sorted then..

Took the scenic route today, ie non motorway, or the route of the orange nothingness. Miles upon Miles of flat plains filled with orange trees and a few olives and vines, interspersed with lots of industries. Central Spain is very big and is a long distance between places hence we did not arrive in Tarragona until after 2pm. Time to find something to eat and scoot around the Roman ruins and Amphitheatre before continuing our journey.

Have you ever been stuck in a 6 lane traffic jam? We have! And consequently arrived later than expected at our accommodation. A beautiful apartment overlooking a small Mediterranean beach. Unfortunately the local shop is closed until June, fortunately we had some food but black coffee is on the menu for breakfast tomorrow. (Just found some latte coffee pods, the world is okay again😀)
