An Eggscellent Day

Monday 10th April 2023

We have eaten most of out chocolate Easter eggs so Sixty persuaded us to make onion dyed hard boiled eggs to roll on our walk today.  As it happened we had eggs and onion skins, but only elastic bands and ribbon to tie them with, but it worked.

Today was a a relaxing ad hoc day to compensate for our time in Madrid yesterday. We travelled 30 mins in Max to a place we saw on a map because it had a castle and water. Wow what a find. We walked along the river to find a place to roll our eggs. Sat and watch the wildlife including fish, numerous birds, pretty flowers, lizards and some large ant like things 😬.

Egg rolling successfully completed and the eggs eaten for lunch. We wandered back into Buitrago del Lozoya. The castle was shut because of the holidays but that didn’t matter as we  walked all around the walls anyway and saw some of the internal structure and some artefacts. We also went into the church of Santa Maria del Castillo with its ornate coffered ceiling ( pictures not allowed hence the poor image) The other eggciting thing, you’ve guessed it already, it had a bell tower. This was believe it or not a surprise to us and only cost 1€ to climb. It was also one of the best constructed we’ve seen, with very sturdy steps to start with leading into a beautiful, circular staircase to the bells.

Another magnificent example of an early spanish castle and fortified town
