There’s Gold Silver in them there hills

Saturday 8th April 2023

An unexpectedly beautiful day. Set out quite late but thought this circular route would be very different from previous walks, and we were right. Quite hard going underfoot, loose and rocky. The promise of the silver mine pulled us up. We did hunt but we think 100’s of years of others thought the same thing.

More plant life than expected on this barren landscape. Two types of daffodil, both very small which we would love in our garden. We saw quite a few little rock lizzards scurrying away from our big feet and, although we have seen lots of big birds of prey, we identified this one as a golden Eagle.

Quite a few other people up there as well, our Scotland walks are always devoid of other people so a nice change. We even met a mountain biker on Mondalindo peak at 6000ft! He named the surrounding peaks for us but we could not understand a word of what he said😄

The way down as usual was long and slow especially on the loose rocks but all in all a very good 8 miles.
