Skirting Borders

Skirting Borders

No one told us that if we wanted to go to Dubrovnik we would have to drive through Bosnia, going through 2 border crossings to get there, and the same to get back. The Croatians are so sick of this they are building a bridge to go around the small Bosnian corridor. Of course we sailed through with flying colours and decided to take the Inland road to Knin. It was a very rural, and therefore we think, more traditional Croatian countryside. As in istria there was a lot less tourism and so less wealth but a very interesting and spectacular route. For several miles we followed the Bosnian border (very closely).

At Vagorac we were faced with barriers and forced into a detour with no warning, so we paid 55p in tolls for the motorway for 1 junction.

Back on track we headed for Knin. Stopping to check the directions, we got into conversation with someone from Split and found ourselves defending the UK.

We got our first glimpse of the mountain we’re going to climb tomorrow, is called Dinara

We had made good time so stopped off at a massive waterfall. The force of the water soaked us as we went to get the view from the other side of the bridge. We were the only ones who went to get this view.!!!

Knin fortress, high up on a rock, was highlighted by the evening sunshine.

It’s Easter Monday and all the shops were shut, now we knew this, but hoped we would find somewhere. The pizza and beer in a local pizzeria were great.
