Rakija

Rakija

Our present apartment as well as having a fabulous balcony with a view has hosts that are really friendly. We were greeted with fritules, traditional Good Friday sweet fritter treats, today she made us cake and we were invited into their kitchen to enjoy a wee glass of Rakija and a chat. Rakija is a traditional Croatian spirit made by distilling fermented nuts, fruits etc. We had biska in Istria made with honey and mistletoe and we believe this one in Trsteno was either walnut or plum and may locally be called Orahovac. Very Nice.

It was 20°C today so we got dressed up and went into Dubrovnik. We saw more people today than in all the other places put together. Dubrovnik has been very well preserved and renovated, but also quite westernised with its designer shops and smart restaurants. We didn’t follow the crowds and walk around the walls but found all the interesting and quiet back alleys. Every little nook and cranny had lots of plants making it look more lived in. We had a change and went into a Benedictine monestery today with bell tower and garden.

Slowly working out way through all the gelato flavours, still a few to go.

Headed home to the balcony before it became to hot.
