Olive Sunday

Olive Sunday

We arose to the sound of chanting, and realised that today was Palm Sunday. However the procession of clergy and people passing our door step were carrying olive branches, but then every other tree in Croatia is an olive tree.

Today’s adventure was going to be an 8 wire zip line, we checked the website, we checked facebook, both said open all year just turn up. So we did. They were shut! We rang and every 5 years they change the wires and this was the year, we were not happy with the misinformation. We just ate or packed lunch there instead.

Onward and upward, although we did go down to Baska, which was a lovely seaside resort. We meet a nice Slovenian who wanted to go to Edinburgh but not many other people around.

We seem to have an affinity with St Francis, we are either following him or he is following us because on the tiny island of Kosljun was a Franciscan monestry. We met the last boat coming off the island as it closes on Sunday afternoons, but the nice skipper offered us a cruise around the bay and Island (for a price). He was a local and had loads of interesting titbits, like swimming bears, massive sea eagles and deer hunting.

To warm ourselves up after the boat ride we headed uphill following the Camino Krk, which is part of a pilgrimage path connecting Croatian churches. We passed 12 mosaic stations of the cross which led to 3 crosses high on the hill with fabulous views across the bay. All that was left to do was to find the local gelato shop. Yummy😄
