While Denmark and Norway have a handful of Rune Stones the majority are located in Sweden. The vast majority of rune stones still standing date from the 9th & 10th Centuries, the latter years of the Viking age.
One Swedish rune stone made its way all the way to Edinburgh, and obviously has distinctive features similar to 18 other stones in Sweden all carved by Erik.
This is not the only inscribed stone in Edinburgh, we only found this out after taking pictures of several uninscribed stones. We could have taken pictures of loads more if we had really wanted to but thought we would spare you that. It took us a while to remember that just around the corner was a weird building with lots of strange words inscribed all over it. Yes it is the Scottish Parliament, no it wasn’t designed by a Scottish person, and believe it or not it wasn’t designed by a Swedish person, but it is interesting. (Barbara actually likes it but says it is in the wrong place) and we have close relative who works in it.
