Only the Romans could wash away a whole mountain and change the landscape for ever just for Gold. Ruina Montium, or wrecking of the mountains by undermining them with large quantities of water brought by hand dug aquaducts tracing the mountain contours from up to 100km away. Hopefully some of our exploitation of natural resources will look as beautiful in 2000 years. The area is quite small and we walked to the highest viewpoint through groves of sweet chestnut trees. Misty enjoyed the steep climb up but really, really enjoyed coming back down😄
Onwards and forwards in time we visited Ponferrada with its fantastical Templar Castle. A truly magnificent, fairytale castle, and we’re not sure why, but we got in free 😀😀. Wandering medieval streets is becoming a habit of ours and as it was a bit warmer today we really enjoyed our stroll in the evening sunshine
