The boat left the jetty at 10.30, we could not understand a word of the onboard commentary but that didn’t matter the gorge spoke for itself. The cliffs rising to 800m in places, and then there it was, out first rainbow of the day spanning the gorge like a halo. The 1 1/2 hour trip was a bit chilly at times and we wondered how all the vines could grow in this weather clinging to the steep cliffs.
Afterwards we went to have a look at the dam started in 1945 and finished in 1954, at the time the biggest hydro electric power station in Europe.
The second rainbow caught us up at one of the many spectacular viewpoints along the gorge, and stayed with us all the way through the afternoon.
At the final viewpoint, the Balconies of Madrid, we took Misty for a look but she was more interested in the spooky wind whistling in the trees.
