Crossing Borders

La Guardia, Pontevedra, Spain

We thought Padron, our overnight stop, was a small inconsequential town, how wrong we were!! Our first hint was when numerous people walked past the car park carrying shopping bags, thought they can’t all be going to the oldest botanical garden in Spain so lets find out. Wow, the biggest open air market we have ever seen, reputedly the biggest in Galacia with over 600 stalls. We bought some fruit and veg on our way to the small botanic gardens and then wandered the old town seeing an old large convent and several churches on the way.

Back to the market. Didn’t recognise a lot of the fish, meat or cheese. Bought bread and cheese anyway. We were invited into a local food tent. They really looked after these 2 strange foreign people feeding us boiled octopus with oil, salt and paprika, chunks of bread, and bowls of local wine, finishing off with coffee with some kink of alcohol in it ???? (Dam having to drive this afternoon 😣) ,loved the food, loved the atmosphere, loved the friendliness.

Now sat in the van in the rain looking out over Portugal. We can’t go any further south here in Spain. We managed to walk Misty around the headland and back before the heavens opened. Probably 1/2 mile from Portugal, maybe next time 🙃
