Three in One

Padrón, A Coruña, Spain

Started this morning, on the last day of the San Froilan festival, at a medieval market with a strong Celtic influence. Galicia is listed as the 7th Celtic nation in the world, most of the others are British. We listened to bag pipes, saw lots of Celtic symbols on everything and watched them boil the local delicacy, Octopus. Full of artisan crafts some of which we watched being made in the traditional way. On the way back to the van we also passed an antique market. Some unusual stuff but not for bringing home.

We were parked near some massive iron structure last night which we discovered was an interactive history museum of Lugo. A fantastic building in itself most of it underground with some massive iron pipe light tubes. A great insight into the Roman walled city and its development over 2000 years. Should have visited first.

The pilgrims heaven of Santiago de Compostela a our 3rd visit of the day. We parked on the University campus and walked through the gardens to the Medieval center. The intricately carved cathedral was the main point of interest. Awesome but the ongoing renovation work meant we did not see it in its full glory. The redeeming factor was finding an ice cream shop in one of the cobbled streets.
