Cliffs of Nowhere

A full day of surprise and alternatives and nowhere is the place to be. We started the day with a fascinating tour of the working lighthouse on the Loophead peninsula which is surrounded by cliffs, sea stacks and the Atlantic.

Just down the road were the Bridges of Ross. Actually there is only one still standing. The colours, curves and strata we saw in the cliffs can only be described as awesome. We wandered for ages on big rock slabs, chatting to people who were just as impressed as us.

Then onto the cliffs of nowhere, a lesser known alternative to the, exploited and expensive, cliffs of moher which is one of Ireland’s biggest attractions. We walked passed jaw dropping cliffs on a well looked after path. Again everyone was just as impressed as us. The diamond hard rock cafe served amazing cake and coffee.

A short sprint to the ferry over the shannon estuary and onwards to Carrigafoyle Castle, a ruin with 109 steps (yes Barbara counted them!!) up a spiral staircase to the top. We were above the nesting swallows
