Away with the fairies
After dragging ourselves away from our amazing overnight stop with its panoramic views of the Atlantic we meandered down to 5 fingers strand which has big sky, a long sandy beach, rolling waves and reputedly some of the highest sand dunes in Europe. Misty loved it.
Just across the water we could see our next stop. Unfortunately we had to drive all the way around to Doag famine village which tells the story of Irish life from the great famine of the 1840’s. A remarkable story, well told by a local man adding in personal stories, and to our great joy, lots about superstition and faries. We even tasted Poitin, illegal moonshine.
Next stop was Gleneven waterfall park. A lovely walk developed by the whole community to a waterfall with a trail of fairy houses leading up.
Finally to our resting place, Pollan Bay and just before sunset we walked all along the beach to Carrickabraghy castle, a 4 mile round trip.
