I’ll take the high road
And what a road it was, first the road followed the gorge, mountains towering above us and that was only 10mins from last night’s campsite. Up numerous hair pin bends and back down them again. Panoramic views spreading in front of us.
Lunch was where paths crossed the road and had a conveniently placed picnic table. Coffee tastes so much better at 4000 feet😊. We then turned left onto the main road towards the Tonale pass, which we thought would be little and windy but in fact was wide and straight, interspersed with hair pins, all the way to the top at 5700ft.
This area is a major ski area and at this time of year it is like a ghost town. There were a few tourists and a few cable cars running but it did not do justice to the views.
Time to go down again and find our overnight stop and walk the wee dog. Found a circular walk about 2 hours in length. Walked through alpine meadows awash with colour, paths steeply winding through pine forests, and chalets with beautiful views. Misty also found several mountain streams which she loved and we had to stop her going head first over a water fall. She also has a bit of a chase of a rather dark squirrel. She enjoyed her walk today and so did we.
