Is it a troglodyte? …no it’s Misty

We were thinking about the Etruscans, as you do, and low and behold we found ourselves in the archaeological park “Città Del tufo” and especially, by pure luck, in the town on top of some tufo, Sorano. So we went off exploring and found these incredible “Vie Cave” (hollow roads) these were narrow trails cut out of the tufo by the Etruscans and in some places are 20m deep. Amazing. These were thought to be secret path ways joining sacred places.

Sorano itself was worthy of a visit on its own. It is characterised by a maze of pretty Alleys twisting up and down, external stairs cases and loads of cave like cellars. This was all topped by the imposing fortezza orsini, a stunning, fortified medieval castle. The view point on masso leopoldino gave us a fantastic panoramic view of the whole town and the area.

We found loads of caves carved into the rock some of which had obviously been lived in, Misty thought she was at home. 😉

Now on our way to the hot springs to cool down after all that walking and exploring😊😊
